Serial Blasts Rock Mumbai

Suburban Mumbai has again fallen victim to terrorist attacks resulting in a loss of 147 lives so far and hundreds injured.

In an apparently planned attack, a yet unknown terrorist group(s) has rocked Mumbai, the financial capital of India with a series of 8 blasts all in a space of 30 minutes reviving some very sad memories of the 1993 serial blasts which tore the country apart.

So far, no single group has claimed responsibility for this heinious act but the air is rife with speculation as to who might be behind this. This comes on the heels of some yet unrelated bomb blasts in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu & Kashmir. Due to the close proximity of the attacks, it can be inferred that the two are linked with each other.

In another disturbing event, some miscreants desecrated the statue of the wife of Shri Balasaheb Thakarey, founder of the Shiv Sena Party, Late Shrimati Meenatai Thakarey. Although the events appear unrelated, the act might very well have been a primer for the blasts to sink Mumbai & India into another series of communal riots.

At this time, I would ask the citizens of India to exercise restraint and not act on rumours and impulse. Having said that I realise that it is very easy for us people who are far far away from the tragedy to ask people to exercise restraint. I am not sure at this point how a person would feel who has lost a loved one. However, in the greater good of nation, it is imperative that there is no communal rioting at this time.

If there are riots then that was what the culprits had exactly intended and would claim victory. The only way to defeat them is by not falling to the traps of the terrorist and exercising restraint.
