Thank you so much..... just saved me from installing Karmic Koala from scratch.

Strange thing is: I migrated from Jaunty a month ago, worked on it, restarted several times without a problem. Then suddenly it started with a warning on an unreadable screen.

Even boot in recovery didn't startup a normal terminal.
