Firefox!! Where art thou???
I was just skimming through the installed programs earlier today and saw two entries of Firefox in the Add/Remove programs in my PC. I (naively) thought that the upgrade from 2.0.0.3 to 2.0.0.4 was not correct and therefore there were two entries for Firefox so I uninstalled Firefox 2.0.0.3. As expected Firefox stopped working on my PC as I had removed it. So I then proceeded to get the firefox from the getfirefox website using the only browser available to me and i.e. Internet Explorer 7.
When I reached the website, I was perplexed to see that there was no download link anywhere on the page and no matter where I tried, I could not find it. Of course I could find download links for Firefox Add-ons and even the Alpha 5 release of Gran Paradiso (slated to be released as Firefox 3) but nothing on Firefox 2. All I could see was this.

See something missing here on this page? Right!!! The green download button is completely missing from this page. I tried all I could to find out but still could not find it. Of course I could have searched for Firefox download and got it, but that's not the point. Why was I not getting the download link the Mozilla page? Was that a bug, a mistake due to which the download was missing? I was almost ready to fire off an email to Mozilla. But decided to get down to the nuts and bolts of it so I tried to read the source of the page itself. There I looked for the download section and found this...

The entire download section itself was commented out. Again was that by mistake? That was for later investigation. I removed the comments and proceeded to save the code locally and download Firefox on my PC. After I installed Firefox I again went to the getfirefox website and checked and this is what I found.

So it definitely was not a bug but IE7 was blocking the download link for Firefox. Was it because of security (?) reasons or just an unfair attempt to win the browser war remains to be seen. If this is an attempt to ward off people from downloading Firefox, then it would the lowest point in Internet Explorer's history!!!
