Microsoft revises security bulletins
Microsoft revised two security bulletins and a security advisory yesterday that were released previously MS06-42, MS06-61 and Microsoft Security Advisory - 927709.
MS06-42:
The revision for this bulletin describes a new issue discovered after applying the security update. Users get a "Permission Denied" error message on computers running Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 after applying the security update when a script is run on Internet Explorer 6. The error and its fix are described in MS Knowledge base article 926046. According to the article there is no hotfix currently available for Windows Server 2003 though a workaround is suggested in the same article. There is a hotfix available for Windows XP which may be obtained by contacting Microsoft support. Please note that there may be costs associated with this hotfix.
MS06-61:
This is the most innocuous of the revisions. This revision provides additional clarity for the reason to have two patch (.msp) files. The security update contains two files for Office 2003; msxml5.msp (targetted at most of the Office programs) and pvmsxm5.msp (targetted at additional office programs. The revision also advises the user to install both the patches to take care of the vulnerability
MS Security Advisory 927709:
This revision to the security advisory updates the users of some known but limited attacks on systems that target this vulnerability. I recommend the users to take precautions and use the workarounds provided by Microsoft to protect against this vulnerability. I expect Microsoft to provide and security patch for this during its monthly update cycle for November 2006
