In this installment of the series of posts, I continue with some more services that can be disabled on your Windows XP computer.

Service Name	Description	Suggestion	Remarks
Protected Storage	This service protects sensitive information such as private keys from exposure except to allowed persons and services	Disable	Protected information will be inaccessible. Only if you are running a small business (< 10 people) should you worry about encryption and private and public keys. Otherwise, safely ignore it.
QoS RSVP	This service provides network signaling and local, traffic-control, set-up functionality for (Quality of Service) QoS-aware programs and control applets	Disable	QoS aware applications with either not function, or will not have their complete functionality. Enable this service if you use QoS aware applications like VoIP.
Remote Desktop Help Session Manager	This service manages and controls Remote Assistance	Disable	Remote Assistance will be unavailable. If you call and use the vendor support and they provide support via Microsoft Remote Assistance, then keep it active.
Remote Registry	This service provides a mechanism to remotely manage the system registry	Disable	Remote systems will be unable to connect to the local registry. Hfnetchk uses this mechanism. Disabling it can affect the patch utility's operation.
Routing and Remote Access	This service enables multiprotocol LAN-to-LAN, LAN-to-WAN, virtual private network (VPN), and network address translation (NAT) routing services for clients and servers on this network	Disable	Routing and Remote Access services will be unavailable. This service is not required for normal operation of the computer so if you have option, don't install it at all.
